Episode 25Evelyn has a gift she can’t ignore: she can see how many dates she will have with every person in the future. Above Carter, her childhood sweetheart and football star, once floated the number “7000,” and she believed they were destined for each other. But when college began, Carter kept choosing fame and fortune over her, slowly crossing lines with Vanessa and betraying Evelyn again and again until that number kept falling. Then Adrian, her new roommate, appeared with “10000” above his head. He silently cleaned up Carter’s lies, stayed beside Evelyn when she was at her lowest, and never once overstepped. On championship night, Carter announced Vanessa as his girlfriend in public, and the final “1” dropped to zero. Only then did Evelyn finally kiss Adrian first. By the time Carter realized what he had lost, he was already desperately trying to win back the future that was never his to throw away.
